Why Is It Worth To Spend Christmas Travelling

To begin with, I don’t aim to convince anyone they should give up on Chistmas traditions  – not.at.all. I simply like escaping winter, and Christmas season seems to be the perfect time to do so.

I really enjoy cheating on ugly London-like winter, choosing Spain or Italy for my desired destination. It’s close and not too pricey, believe it or not. For my Christmas holiday, I visited Rome, Venice, Barcelona, and it’s not my first trip to Canary Islands during this period. We took on a short break to Fuerteventura with friends two years ago, and I was quite satisfied with the Canarian weather ( 20-ish degree), food, atmosphere and, well, prices.

Tenerife was meant to be the ‘ not-much-to-see’ island, but it appreared to be quite interesting. We especially like the view of El Teide (volcano) covered with snow, only just 30 minutes after a little swim in the ocean with the temerature of 22 degrees (hypothermia? naaah…)

I am a big fan of Canarian food – with the octopus, prawns, fresh fish and all the lovely salads I could pretty much stay in Tenerife forever. Delicious and healthy (grilled option of course)! They also serve a really nice sangria, red wine and cerveza ( I don’t like beer, my boyfriend does).

Playa del Duque in Costa Adeje is very lively during the Christmas period, with all the Canarian restaurants and coffee shops open till late. Super convenient for a group of friends travelling there! *You should choose Tenerife over Fuerteventura if partying is your way of spending Christmas 🙂

Perfumes, bags, sunglasses at discounted prices are also a big plus 🙂 I managed to get Thierry Mugler Womanity for around 30$, and Prada Luna for men for around 35$, which is around 40% off regular price. Bargain!

Spending Christmas actively sightseeing an island or behind the table with beloved family? Both options are great, but I truely recommend to try the second one at least once in a lifetime!

  1. I would always spend Christmas back home and then start traveling. I don’t care to spend NYE somewhere else. On the other hand, Christmas is all about family for me and if my family would join I wouldn’t mind.

    all the best for 2017,

    1. That’s true – it would make perfect combo if my family could join me. Unfortunately, my mom and dad work for over the Christmas period, and my sister lives somewhere else 🙁
